This year’s Computex Taipei has booked a stellar speaker lineup of industry heavyweights, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) said May 17.

Speakers at the June 5 opening forum include Steve Mollenkopf, president and chief operating officer of mobile chip leader Qualcomm Inc.; Ian Drew, chief marketing officer of ARM Holdings Plc, the world’s biggest chip fab; and Arun Bhikshesvaran, chief marketing officer of Ericsson Ltd., the world’s largest mobile network equipment maker, TAITRA Executive Vice President Walter Yeh said.

Running June 4 to 8, Computex Taipei will feature more than 5,000 stalls by 1,724 manufacturers. The three main themes at this year’s show are smart mobility, touch enabled applications, and cloud technology and services. Major forums will be held for each of the main themes, and an additional one on smart lifestyles.

The 2013 Computex will be the biggest ever, TAITRA said, with 38,000 international buyers expected to attend, placing an estimated US$25 billion in orders. An originally scheduled 1,000 one-on-one buyer meetings over two days has been expanded to 1,800 over four days.

The Computex Design and Innovation Awards are in their sixth year, Yeh said, with 254 entries from 101 manufacturers, up 16 percent and 24 percent, respectively, on last year. The awards are seen by major players as increasingly important in an information and communications technology business in which product quality and value is heavily influenced by innovation in R&D and design, he added.
